Stop the lies and twists — Anakpawis to PNP
Manila, Philippines — “It was the police who snatched and continue to hostage the lifeless body of Randall Echanis sans the family’s consent. We urge the PNP to refrain from issuing false statements in a vain attempt to cover-up the murder of our elderly leader,” This was the response of the militant Party-list Anakpawis to the head of the Quezon City Police District-Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (PNP-CIDU), who claimed that members of Anakpawis party-list “illegally moved the remains of 71-year old Randall “Randy” Echanis sans the authorities’ consent.
Echanis, Chairperson of Anakpawis and NDFP Peace Consultant was brutally murdered in his rented apartment in Novaliches, Quezon City, during the wee hours of August 10. Anakpawis “highly suspects state forces to be behind the murder”, as Echanis had been state’s target for neutralization prior to his killing.
In a statement, former Anakpawis Congressman Ariel Casilao said that the family first obtained Echanis’ remains upon the external examination of the body with proper coordination and in the presence of the PNP physician named Maj/Dr. Annalee Palima of QCPD Station 10 Kamuning, crime lab.
The external examination was for the purpose of issuing the death certificate so the body can be released. The former solon added that the PNP doctor was in close coordination with the CIDU.
“There is no truth that we transferred the body from Pink Petal Funeral to the funeral of the family’s choice. And in the first place, the families don’t need PNP’s consent to transfer the body when the funeral has already approved its release,” Casilao said in a statement.
“PNP’s twisted statements reek whitewashing and cover-up. Whatever happened to their investigation on the assailants?” Casilao ended. ###
