PNP exposing themselves as “lawless” elements on NCRPO’s birthday bash
Manila, Philippines – After the Philippine National Police National Capital Region Information Office uploaded and then deleted photos of the birthday celebration for its chief Debold Sinas, Anakpawis Party-list former representative Ariel “Ka Ayik” Casilao slammed it “law enforcers are actually lawless elements” violating the very rule they are trying to impose to the broad population in Metro Manila and various parts of the country.
“So P in PNP now stands for ‘pasaway,’ and they had the gall to insult the people who are subjected by the lockdown. They even killed one to sow a chilling effect for the people to follow the rule, and then this, right in our very eyes. We demand Sinas and all those present to be held accountable for violating the rule against mass gathering and on physical distancing,” the former lawmaker slated.
He added that it is very dangerous that the very PNP violates this rule based on the recommendation of the World Health Organization (WHO), as they are the ones manning checkpoints and interacting with motorists.
“This is akin at the beginning when they are manning checkpoints without proper protective gears, thus, they become potential agents of the pandemic, and now we are seeing this mass gathering for a non-essential birthday bash,” he said.
He also cited that the PNP are with “iron-hand” against relief workers when its elements arrested the volunteers of Tulong Anakpawis and Oplan Sagip Kanayunan in Norzagaray town in Bulacan, on April 19, and the relief workers of CURE COVID in Marikina in May 1, and accused them of mass gatherings.
Moreover, the incident is a gross insult to the former soldier killed by police in Quezon City on April 21, accused of violating the community quarantine. As of April third week, at least 136,517 persons were arrested accused of quarantine violations.
“PNP Chief Archie Gamboa is at a loss if he thinks he can cover up for Sinas, when he is actually liable for command responsibility. He certainly failed to make sure his subordinates follow the rule against mass gatherings and on physical distancing. This case is also against him,” Casilao stressed.
Finally, he claimed that as the PN, as an institution is an agent of the rule of impunity, or authoritarianism against the broad people but exempting its allies, the people could never expect any ounce of justice being served on this issue. Thus, accountability would totally lie on the broad people’s demand.
“We urge the broad people to join the call to hold Sinas and Gamboa, and all those present to be held accountable for violating the rule against mass gatherings and on physical distancing. We had enough government incompetence that cost the people their livelihood and mass distress. Punish these so-called ‘law enforcers’ who are actually ‘lawless elements,’” he ended. ###
