Militarized SAP distribution, preposterous – Anakpawis
Manila, Philippines – The Anakpawis Party-list slammed the pronouncement of President Rodrigo Duterte to involve the military in the distribution of social amelioration, as absurd and irrational, as the broad people’s demand is to include more poor families and not complicate it with involving another useless actor in the program.
“It is like, ‘ayuda ang hiling ng mamamayan, bakit sila bibigyan ng sundalong makikiaalam,’ and is part of Duterte’s mindset to cover up his incompetencies by his tyrannical antics. It is the same to the absurdity of deploying heavily-armed forces into communities, as if they could quell the pandemic,” Ariel “Ka Ayik” Casilao, Anakpawis Party-list former representative said in a press statement.
He added that Duterte is attempting to deflect the public denunciation by desperately blaming “lack of discipline” of those desperate to receive the aid, and as the basis for his blabber.
“While the whole country knows why people are lining up desperately because obviously there is no adequate aid, worsened by the local officials’ ineptitude to craft an effective system that upholds physical distancing, the so-called president denies the root causes and relies on his made-up world that the military would come up marching and save the day,” he slated.
He cited that Duterte might be forgetting that his cabinet is composed of many retired officials from the military and police, but still, his government has failed grossly to address the pandemic and carry out responses.
Finally, he raised that the plan would politicize the social amelioration program and could be weaponized against communities that are critical of the government.
“We should resist the scenario that those communities who are demanding immediate aid and ‘mass testing’ as a correct response to the pandemic, might be excluded from social amelioration. This is not impossible as we are under a rule of impunity, where critics and opposition are hammered with the full force of the law, but Duterte’s allies enjoy the privileges and exemptions. We urge the public to oppose this plan and demand adequate aid to affected poor sectors and the decisive response of ‘mass testing’ to contain and end the pandemic,” he ended. ###
