“Chinese mafia seems to run the Palace” – Anakpawis

Manila, Philippines — “While the government has been very strict and imposing tough measures against alleged quarantine violators, it will allow an unscrupulous online gambling activity to operate while Filipinos are thrown to hunger due to absence of sources of livelihood. It basically defeats the purpose of containing the virus contagion. Moreover, it is the height of betrayal to Filipinos by putting foreign interests for profit over the fundamental public welfare,” According to the left-leaning group Anakpawis Party-list, lambasting the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) for allowing the partial operations of the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) during communtiy quarantine.

“Clearly the decision to reopen POGO caters the online gamblers in China while putting the health safety of its Chinese and Filipino workers here at risk. It can be recalled that it was not less than the Chinese government that discouraged President Duterte not to allow POGO operations in the country, which raises the question who’s in charge of POGOs back home in China? It is more probable that it’s the big fish international organized crime syndicate Chinese Mafia, and it is apparent that its influence in Malacanang is more powerful than the people’s demand for an immediate medical solution,” Ariel Casilao, former Representative of Anakpawis Party-list said in a statement.

Casilao, who hails from Davao City, raises doubts that POGO operators would “comply with the proper health safety measures”, stating that POGOs have records of “not adhering to tax, immigration, and even criminal laws.”

Lastly, Anakpawis stressed that “the Duterte government just exposes itself that humanitarian efforts of individuals and organizations are less priority in addressing the health and socio-economic crisis, but anti-social activities like the online gambling POGO”.

“The Duterte government conveniently dismissed voluntary humanitarian and relief missions as unauthorized, ordering arbitrary arrests of individuals and organizations conducting relief operations, but is allowing a gambling activity to resume that favors foreign entities and detrimental to Filipinos,” ended Casilao. ###
